Somertijd

Wednesday April 19 - 8:00 PM | Jozefkerk, Assen (NL)
With soloist Julia Philippens

Undiscovered gems composer Louis Henri Somer from Assen, a work inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy King Lear, music by the young composer Arjan Linker from Drenthe and two jazzy pieces with, for and by Julia Philippens.

With the project Somertijd, Somer wants to give substance to the connection with the city of Assen and the province of Drenthe. ‘Somertijd’ has been programmed by Theater De Nieuwe Kolk in the beautiful Jozefkerk on the Collardslaan in Assen, a perfect location for this concert!

In the program ‘Somertijd’ Somer plays:

  • Two compositions by Louis Henri Somer, including Pan et les Nymphes, the first orchestral work by this Assen composer, which he wrote in 1925-1926 during his studies.
  • A piece by the young composer from Drenthe, Arjan Linker.
  • King Lear by Hector Berlioz, who was inspired for this work by Shakespeare’s dark tragedy of the same name.
  • Influent by Julia Philippens, which she wrote for Fuse and later arranged for this orchestra.
  • Technicolor by Thomas Beijer written for and performed by Julia Philippens as soloist on jazz violin.
